Irvin Announces Funding for Area Fire, EMS Companies

HARRISBURG – Rep. Rich Irvin (R-Franklin/Huntingdon) announced funding awarded to emergency responder organizations in the 81st Legislative District under the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program.

“Our fire and EMS companies are the backbone of public safety in Pennsylvania,” said Irvin. “These grants are an investment in their ability to respond quickly and effectively when our communities need them most. I’m proud to support funding that helps provide the training, equipment and resources our first responders rely on every day to save lives.”

Projects eligible for funding under the grant include construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, reduction of existing debt, recruitment/retention, and public education about fire safety. 

The following is a list of local fire and EMS companies and the amount of their grant awards:

Franklin County
  • Fannett Metal Fire and Ambulance Co. (Fire) - $16,136.
  • Fannett Metal Fire and Ambulance Co. (EMS) - $15,000.
  • Mapleton Fire Department Inc. - $13,250.
  • Metal Township Fire and Ambulance Co. Inc. (Fire) - $13,663.
  • Metal Township Fire and Ambulance Co. Inc. (EMS) - $15,000.
  • Pleasant Hall Volunteer Fire Co. (EMS) - $15,000.
  • Pleasant Hall Volunteer Fire Co. (Fire) - $13,044.
  • St. Thomas Township Volunteer Fire and Rescue Co. - $12,220.
  • West End Fire and Rescue Co. - $16,136.

Huntingdon County
  • Alexandria Volunteer Fire Co. - $15,518.
  • Huntingdon Regional Fire and Rescue - $40,136.
  • Juniata Valley Ambulance Service Assoc. Inc. - $15,000.
  • Marklesburg Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 (Fire) - $13,663.
  • Marklesburg Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 (EMS) - $15,000.
  • Mill Creek Borough Volunteer Fire Co. - $16,136.
  • Mount Union Fire Co. 1 (Fire) - $12,220.
  • Mount Union Fire Co. 1 (EMS) - $15,000.
  • Orbisonia Rockhill Emergency Medical Service - $15,000.
  • Orbisonia Rockhill Volunteer Fire Co. - $13,457.
  • Petersburg Volunteer Fire Co. - $13,457.
  • RW & BT Volunteer Fire Co. (Fire) - $13,457.
  • RW & BT Volunteer Fire Co. (EMS) - $15,000.
  • Shade Gap Fire Co. - $12,426.
  • Shavers Creek Valley Community Volunteer Fire Co. - $13,869.
  • Smithfield Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 - $16,136.
  • Stone Creek Valley Volunteer Fire Co. - $14,075.
  • Three Springs Area Ambulance Service Inc. - $15,000.
  • Three Springs Fire Company - $12,220.
  • Trough Creek Valley Volunteer Fire Co. - $12,220.
  • Twins Creek Community Volunteer Ambulance - $15,000.

The funding comes from an ongoing grant program created by the Legislature and administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). All funding comes from the proceeds from slot machine gaming, and not General Fund tax revenue.
